Tag prefix export columns turn labels written as prefix:value into their own column in your exports. Label your monitors sku:WGT-500, sku:WGT-750 and so on, add the prefix sku, and every export gets a Sku column holding WGT-500 or WGT-750 for each monitor.
Use them to carry your own reference data, such as a product code, a client name, a region or an owner, from PageCrawl into a spreadsheet without editing it by hand afterwards.
What does a tag prefix do?
A tag prefix makes one export column available for each prefix you add. For every monitor, the column holds the text after the colon of that monitor's label with the same prefix. A monitor with the label region:EU shows EU in the Region column, and a monitor without such a label leaves the cell empty.
| Label on the monitor | Prefix | Column header | Cell value |
|---|---|---|---|
sku:WGT-500 |
sku |
Sku | WGT-500 |
client:Acme Retail |
client |
Client | Acme Retail |
owner:Marketing |
owner |
Owner | Marketing |
(no owner: label) |

Owner | empty |
Labels and tags are the same thing: the monitor form calls them Labels, and the settings call the feature tag prefixes.
How do I set it up?
Add the prefix in the workspace settings, tick its new column under Data Fields, then label your monitors with that prefix. A team owner or manager can change the settings, and each workspace keeps its own prefixes.
- Open Settings > Workspace > General and scroll to the Data Fields card.
- In Tag prefixes, type the prefix in Tag prefix export columns, for example
sku, and choose Add. Add up to 10. - Choose Update to save the prefixes.
- In the column list above, on the Excel Exports tab, tick the new column (for example Sku) and drag it where you want it. Choose Save Excel Columns.
- If you sync to Google Sheets, do the same on the Google Sheets tab and choose Save Google Sheets Columns.
- Add a label such as
sku:WGT-500to each monitor, either on the monitor's Labels field or for many monitors at once with Bulk Edit.
Note: adding a prefix only makes its column available. The column appears in exports once you tick it under Data Fields.
Where do the columns appear?
Tag prefix columns appear wherever your Data Fields columns are used. The Excel Exports columns apply to Excel downloads, including single page exports, bulk exports and summary reports. The Google Sheets columns apply to the Google Sheets sync, and the sheet reloads with the new columns when you save them.
What can a prefix contain?
A prefix uses lowercase letters, numbers and underscores only, up to 50 characters, for example sku, client or cost_centre. Leave out the colon: PageCrawl adds it when it reads your labels, and removes one if you type it. The column header is the prefix with a capital first letter, so sku becomes Sku.
How are labels matched?
A label matches when it starts with the prefix and a colon, ignoring capitals, so SKU:WGT-500 and sku:WGT-500 both fill the Sku column. The value is everything after the first colon, exactly as you wrote it. Labels without the colon, such as plain sku, are not matched.
If a monitor has more than one label with the same prefix, the column shows the value of the label that was created first. Keep one label per prefix on each monitor so the column is predictable.
What happens when I remove a prefix?
Removing a prefix removes its column from your saved Excel and Google Sheets column lists, so exports stop including it. The labels on your monitors stay as they are, and adding the prefix again makes the column available again.
How does this relate to product comparison?
Teams with Product Comparison see one more field in the same section, Comparison tag prefix (ref by default). Monitors sharing a label with that prefix, such as ref:SKU123, are compared with each other. It works alongside your export columns: you can also add the same prefix as an export column to show the reference in your spreadsheets.
