About website evidence capture
What is included in the evidence ZIP?
A replayable WACZ web archive, a screenshot, the rendered page, capture details and a manifest with file checksums. The capture records include the requested URL, final URL, capture time and any resources that could not be saved. Check the included capture report for the contents and limitations of your particular capture.
How do I open the WACZ archive?
Extract the ZIP, then open its WACZ file in a compatible viewer such as ReplayWeb.page. The archive lets you replay the resources that were saved during the capture. Content that was blocked, arrived after the capture ended or required a login may be missing.
What makes this useful as website evidence?
Keep a record of a webpage before it changes or disappears. Your ZIP combines a replayable archive, screenshot, page content and capture details, so you can show what was saved and when. File checksums help you check that the saved files remain unchanged. Keep the original ZIP for complaints, investigations, compliance reviews or sharing with your legal adviser.
Can I also save the page to the Internet Archive?
After your ZIP is ready, you can request a separate public capture in the Internet Archive. You must agree to making that copy public. The Internet Archive captures the live URL itself, so its copy may differ from your downloaded evidence. Saving is subject to daily limits and Internet Archive availability.
Can I capture a page behind a login?
This free tool captures one public HTTP or HTTPS page without your personal browser session. It does not sign in, submit forms or follow links to crawl the rest of a website. For scheduled captures and pages that need a login, use PageCrawl monitoring.
