Frequently asked questions
Which address should I monitor for GitHub releases?
The release feed, https://github.com/{owner}/{repo}/releases.atom, for example https://github.com/react/react/releases.atom. It holds about the 10 newest entries, each with the release name, a link and the release notes. Pasting the Releases page works too.
Does the release feed include pre-releases?
Yes. GitHub's release feed also carries betas, release candidates, canary builds and tags that have no release, and it runs newest day first, so the top entry is not always the newest stable release. The preview above counts the pre-releases it finds, and the What matters text tells the AI which versions you care about when it summarizes and rates each new entry.
How do I monitor a CHANGELOG.md file?
Monitor its raw address, https://raw.githubusercontent.com/{owner}/{repo}/{branch}/CHANGELOG.md, with Full Page Text and Everything selected, so a new entry shows up as added lines. An address with /blob/ in it is GitHub's viewer page, not the file. On GitLab the raw address is /-/raw/{branch}/{path}. Very large files are capped and only the beginning is kept, which suits changelogs that put the newest entry first.
Can I monitor GitLab releases and tags the same way?
Yes. On gitlab.com, releases are at https://gitlab.com/{group}/{project}/-/releases.atom and tags at /-/tags?format=atom; the look-alike /-/tags.atom redirects to the sign-in page. GitLab's release feed lists every release, and a monitor's Track first setting keeps the newest 10 by default. Self-managed servers use the same addresses on their own domain, and if one only answers a regular browser, monitor its Releases page with Full Page Text instead.
How often is a release feed checked?
On the schedule you set, as often as every 2 minutes depending on your plan. A new release is picked up on the next check after it appears, and the first check records the releases already listed as a baseline, so versions that shipped before you started never trigger an alert.
