X Gretchen Whitmer for Governor About Issues News Media Store DONATE POSTED ON OCTOBER 23, 2018 BY ZACK POHL Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha Endorses Gretchen Whitmer for Governor FLINT — Today Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha, the physician, scientist, and activist whose research exposed the Flint water crisis, announced her support for Gretchen Whitmer for governor. “I endorse Gretchen Whitmer, unequivocally and enthusiastically, as the best choice for kids come [DATE REMOVED],” said Dr. Mona. “She has the potential to be an effective leader on the issues Michiganders care about. She has spoken eloquently about the environmental injustice at the heart of the Flint water crisis. She is committed to replacing our lead service lines in Flint and across the state. She understands that PFAS is an imminent threat to our water supply. She has a plan to fight endemic poverty in our cities, especially the scourge of poverty devastating Michigan’s children.” Dr. Mona is the founder and director of the Pediatric Public Health Initiative, a model program to mitigate the impact of the Flint water crisis and ensure kids in Flint grow up healthy. Her work exposing the Flint water crisis awarded her the Freedom of Expression Courage Award by PEN America. In 2016, Dr. Mona was named one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World. “I’m so proud to have Dr. Mona’s support because she’s dedicated her life to serving the people of Flint,” said Whitmer. “We’ve got to make sure kids in Flint and across the state have the support they need to live a healthy life so they can get ahead. That means ensuring they have nutrition, dental and medical services in school and access to quality, affordable health care. It means speeding up the replacement of lead pipes and restoring bottled water services to Flint residents. I’m ready to roll up my sleeves on day one and get to work making sure every community has clean, safe drinking water and every Michigander has a path to a high wage skill.” Whitmer has released a plan to clean up our drinking water by creating the Department of Great Lakes and Freshwater. Whitmer’s plan calls for expediting the replacement of lead pipes and cleaning up PFAS contamination sites across the state so every community has clean, safe drinking water. ### Share this post: Share Tweet Email Post navigation  Previous Post MI Nurses Association VP: “Bill Schuette is getting desperate” Next Post   Deputy Sheriffs Association of Michigan Endorses Whitmer for Governor Meet Gretchen Meet Garlin Issues News Volunteer Events Media Store Donate JOIN GRETCHEN Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube Medium P.O. The 30-second ad, titled “First Day,” focuses on Whitmer’s record of fighting for public education. CLICK HERE TO WATCH THE AD AD SCRIPT: Every year we take a “first day of school” picture. I love them. And every [DATE REMOVED] it’s still a scramble getting my girls out the door to high school. As Senate Democratic Leader, I fought to raise teacher pay, cut class sizes, and invest in public schools. But not Bill Schuette. He voted to cut $500 million from education and support Betsy Devos’s plans to send taxpayer dollars to private schools. Bill Schuette doesn’t get it. But I do. It all starts with good schools. The commercial will begin airing on broadcast and cable TV stations across Michigan starting today. ### Share this post: Share Tweet Email Post navigation  Previous Post New Group of ‘Veterans for Whitmer’ Forms to Help Elect Gretchen Whitmer as Michigan’s Next Governor Next Post   Sen. Sen. Bernie Sanders Endorses Whitmer for Governor - Gretchen Whitmer for GovernorSkip to content Stand with Michigan against hate. CONTRIBUTE TODAY! X Gretchen Whitmer for Governor About Issues News Media Store DONATE POSTED ON OCTOBER 11, 2018 BY ADAM FOX-LONG Sen. Bernie Sanders Endorses Whitmer for Governor Sanders speaking at Whitmer campaign rally next Friday at U-M’s Rackham Auditorium DETROIT – Today U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) endorsed Gretchen Whitmer for Governor of Michigan. The Whitmer campaign also announced that Sen. Sanders will speak at a campaign rally for Whitmer at Rackham Auditorium on the University of Michigan campus next Friday. “I am proud to endorse Gretchen Whitmer for governor of Michigan,” said Sen. Sanders. “Too often, Michigan’s working families have been left behind by the political elite. That’s why Gretchen will work to get big money out of politics, invest in infrastructure, and move towards universal pre-school. In the year 2018 it is simply unacceptable that thousands of Michigan families have drinking water that is contaminated and unsafe. For Gretchen, it will be a top priority to make sure that every Michigander will have clean drinking water so that parents no longer will have to worry about the health of their children.” “I’m so excited to welcome Sen. Sanders to Michigan next week so we can build on our momentum and get more people fired up to head to the polls in November,” said Whitmer. “Michiganders are ready for a governor who knows how to get things done, like fixing the damn roads, cleaning up our drinking water, and protecting access to quality, affordable health care. If we’re going to solve these problems, we’ve got to get out and elect Democrats up and down the ballot. We’ve got to make sure our friends, families, and neighbors have a plan to get to their polling places. I’m not taking my foot off the gas until the polls close on November 6th. Let’s get it done.”   WHAT: Campaign rally for Gretchen Whitmer and Michigan Democrats   WHO: Gretchen Whitmer, Democratic Nominee for Governor Garlin Gilchrist II, Democratic Nominee for Lt.
