Holding Government Accountable - Gretchen Whitmer for GovernorSkip to content Stand with Michigan against hate. CONTRIBUTE TODAY! X Gretchen Whitmer for Governor About Issues News Media Store DONATE Holding Government Accountable HOME ISSUES HOLDING GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTABLE Michigan’s next governor needs to be laser focused on getting things done that will actually make a difference in people’s lives right now, like fixing the damn roads, improving education and skills training, and making health care more affordable for families. The problem is that Governor Snyder and Republicans in Lansing have spent the [DATE REMOVED] rigging the rules of Michigan’s economy to favor wealthy campaign donors like Education Secretary Betsy DeVos over regular Michigan families. READ GRETCHEN’S FULL PLAN Since 2011, Republicans in Lansing have: passed the Emergency Manager law, which created the Flint Water Crisis; put the lives of Michigan veterans at risk by privatizing jobs at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans; doubled campaign contribution limits infusing even more money into state politics; and refused to extend the Freedom of Information Act to the governor’s office and the legislature. As a result, Michigan’s lack of transparency and accountability earned us an F on [DATE REMOVED] Center for Public Integrity’s survey. Michigan is now dead last in the nation for state ethics and transparency laws. My Michigan Sunshine Plan will rewrite the rules in Lansing to work for regular families by making state government more open, transparent, and accountable to Michigan taxpayers. It’s time to get it done, so we can build a better Michigan for everyone to infuse integrity in Governance and earn back public confidence. My Michigan Sunshine Plan Includes: Tough new lobbying rules including real-time expenditure reporting, and [DATE REMOVED]-year “cooling off” period for former legislators, which will be the longest in the nation. Greater transparency requirements for the MEDC including stronger accountability measures for job creation. Repealing the 2012 Emergency Manager law restoring local elected government. Reversing the Citizens United on steroids legislation that allows unlimited campaign spending. Expanding the Freedom of Information Act to include the governor’s office and legislature. Strengthening the Open Meetings Act to provide for the live streaming of all state board and commission meetings. Ending partisan gerrymandering and creating an Independent Redistricting Commission. Vetoing all legislation that is designed to circumvent the public’s right to referendum and pursuing legislative change to prohibit future abuses. Passing personal financial disclosure and conflict of interest laws for political candidates and senior appointees. Requiring accountability for campaign robocalls. New Poll: Whitmer Leads Schuette by 11pts, Outside Groups Abandon Schuette - Gretchen Whitmer for GovernorSkip to content Stand with Michigan against hate. CONTRIBUTE TODAY! X Gretchen Whitmer for Governor About Issues News Media Store DONATE POSTED ON OCTOBER 25, 2018 BY ZACK POHL New Poll: Whitmer Leads Schuette by 11pts, Outside Groups Abandon Schuette LANSING — A new internal poll from Gretchen Whitmer’s campaign for governor shows Whitmer leading Bill Schuette by 11 points, 47-36. Whitmer’s name recognition (77% name ID) is on par with Schuette’s (79%), and by [DATE REMOVED]-point margin voters have a favorable impression of her (46% favorable / 32% unfavorable). By comparison, Schuette’s personal popularity is nearly the inverse of Whitmer’s. He continues to be underwater (36% fav / 43% unfav) with voters statewide, including nearly 3-in-10 (29%) who are very unfavorable to him. “Gretchen Whitmer has all the momentum in this race,” said Whitmer Campaign Manager Eric Goldman. “Schuette remains stuck in the mid-30s, and is being badly outspent on TV during the final [DATE REMOVED] of the campaign as Republican outside groups have all but left him for dead. While Gretchen is in a strong position to win this race, we aren’t taking anything for granted. Our campaign will keep our foot on the gas and continue to reach out to voters on the phones, on the doors, and online until the last poll closes [DATE REMOVED].” Outside Republican groups have dramatically slashed their investments in the governor’s race. In fact, the Republican Governors Association has cancelled all TV buys for Schuette in the final week of the campaign, and no Republican outside groups have stepped up to fill the void. Meanwhile, Whitmer and the DGA will each dramatically outspend Schuette in the campaign’s closing days. The new poll was conducted for the Whitmer campaign by ALG Research, who did polling for the Obama campaign. It included a sample of 906 likely 2018 general election voters in Michigan, and was conducted [DATE REMOVED], with 55 percent of interviews conducted via cell phone. The margin of error is +/-3.3% at the 95% level of confidence. A memo on the poll is available here. # # # Share this post: Share Tweet Email Post navigation  Previous Post Whitmer Wins Second Debate as Schuette Struggles to Defend Record of Filing Nine Lawsuits to Rip Health Care Away from 680,000 Michiganders Next Post   New Poll: Whitmer Leads Schuette by 11pts, Outside Groups Abandon Schuette Meet Gretchen Meet Garlin Issues News Volunteer Events Media Store Donate JOIN GRETCHEN Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube Medium P.O. MI Nurses Association VP: "Bill Schuette is getting desperate" - Gretchen Whitmer for Governor46%Skip to content Stand with Michigan against hate. CONTRIBUTE TODAY! X Gretchen Whitmer for Governor About Issues News Media Store DONATE POSTED ON OCTOBER 17, 2018 BY ADAM FOX-LONG MI Nurses Association VP: “Bill Schuette is getting desperate” LANSING – Today the Vice President of the Michigan Nurses Association, Katie Scott, RN, issued the following statement commenting on Bill Schuette’s latest campaign ad, where Schuette claims he “voted to protect patients with pre-existing conditions.” “Bill Schuette is getting desperate as he sees Gretchen Whitmer’s commitment to better health care for all Michigan residents hitting home with more and more voters,” said Scott. “Bill Schuette claiming he will create better health insurance is like Betsy DeVos saying she’ll create better public schools. Voters are smart enough to know when someone in power is looking out for the wealthy and not the rest of us. Nurses across the state want Bill Schuette to quit trying to bury his lawsuits to kill coverage of pre-existing conditions and the Medicaid expansion that millions of Michigan patients – and our own families – rely on every day.” # # #   Share this post: Share Tweet Email Post navigation  Previous Post Detroit Regional Chamber Endorses Gretchen Whitmer Over Bill Schuette for Governor Next Post   Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha Endorses Gretchen Whitmer for Governor Meet Gretchen Meet Garlin Issues News Volunteer Events Media Store Donate JOIN GRETCHEN Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube Medium P.O. Whitmer Releases Plan to Protect Roe v. Wade in Michigan - Gretchen Whitmer for GovernorSkip to content Stand with Michigan against hate. CONTRIBUTE TODAY! X Gretchen Whitmer for Governor About Issues News Media Store DONATE POSTED ON JULY 24, 2018 BY ADAM FOX-LONG Whitmer Releases Plan to Protect Roe v. Wade in Michigan DETROIT — Today former Senate Democratic Leader and Ingham County Prosecutor Gretchen Whitmer released her plan to protect and expand women’s reproductive rights by enshrining Roe v. Wade protections in state law. With the fate of Roe vs. Wade hanging in the balance with Donald Trump’s Supreme Court appointment, Whitmer’s plan will repeal the 1931 law that criminalizes abortion and reinstate funding for family planning. Read the plan here. “The stakes in this election couldn’t be higher for Michigan women and families,” said Whitmer. “As Governor, I will work fiercely to defend the rights of every Michigan woman, including women’s access to all forms of reproductive care and contraception. I am going to fight like hell to pass state laws that will protect women’s legal right to control their bodies and make their own decisions about whether and when to become a parent. The fate of Roe v. Wade and our constitutional rights are on the line in this election, and there is simply too much at stake for Michigan women to let Bill Schuette anywhere near the governor’s office.” “We can’t change the minds of people like Bill Schuette about whether women should have safe and legal access to all forms of reproductive care, but we sure can change where they sit,” said Lori Carpentier, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan. “Michigan women need a governor who will stand up and protect our rights. Gretchen Whitmer has a real plan to protect Roe v. Wade in state law, and she’s the only candidate in this race who actually knows how to get it done.” Whitmer’s plan includes: Repealing PA 328 of 1938, which criminalizes abortion and labels family planning medical professionals as felons. Restore family planning funding for low-income Michiganders that was cut by Governor Snyder and Lansing Republicans. Repealing Michigan’s “rape insurance” law. Requiring insurance companies to cover 365-day supplies of covered prescription contraceptives. Removing the 24-hour waiting period for an abortion. Ensuring health facilities cannot refuse to provide reproductive health services if withholding them would result in health risks. Fixing our burdensome and ineffective sexual education laws. Whitmer has also released plans to clean up Michigan’s drinking water, improve education and skills training, create more good-paying jobs, fix Michigan’s infrastructure and make state government more open, transparent and accountable. ### Share this post: Share Tweet Email Post navigation  Previous Post Whitmer Blasts Schuette Plan to Ban Abortion in Michigan Next Post   Whitmer Releases Plan to Fight Urban Poverty Meet Gretchen Meet Garlin Issues News Volunteer Events Media Store Donate JOIN GRETCHEN Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube Medium P.O.
