New Poll: Whitmer Leads Schuette by 11pts, Outside Groups Abandon Schuette - Gretchen Whitmer for GovernorSkip to content Stand with Michigan against hate. CONTRIBUTE TODAY! X Gretchen Whitmer for Governor About Issues News Media Store DONATE POSTED ON OCTOBER 25, 2018 BY ADAM FOX-LONG New Poll: Whitmer Leads Schuette by 11pts, Outside Groups Abandon Schuette LANSING — A new internal poll from Gretchen Whitmer’s campaign for governor shows Whitmer leading Bill Schuette by 11 points, 47-36. Whitmer’s name recognition (77% name ID) is on par with Schuette’s (79%), and by [DATE REMOVED]-point margin voters have a favorable impression of her (46% favorable / 32% unfavorable). By comparison, Schuette’s personal popularity is nearly the inverse of Whitmer’s. He continues to be underwater (36% fav / 43% unfav) with voters statewide, including nearly 3-in-10 (29%) who are very unfavorable to him. “Gretchen Whitmer has all the momentum in this race,” said Whitmer Campaign Manager Eric Goldman. “Schuette remains stuck in the mid-30s, and is being badly outspent on TV during the final [DATE REMOVED] of the campaign as Republican outside groups have all but left him for dead. While Gretchen is in a strong position to win this race, we aren’t taking anything for granted. Our campaign will keep our foot on the gas and continue to reach out to voters on the phones, on the doors, and online until the last poll closes [DATE REMOVED].” Outside Republican groups have dramatically slashed their investments in the governor’s race. In fact, the Republican Governors Association has cancelled all TV buys for Schuette in the final week of the campaign, and no Republican outside groups have stepped up to fill the void. Meanwhile, Whitmer and the DGA will each dramatically outspend Schuette in the campaign’s closing days. The new poll was conducted for the Whitmer campaign by ALG Research, who did polling for the Obama campaign. It included a sample of 906 likely 2018 general election voters in Michigan, and was conducted [DATE REMOVED], with 55 percent of interviews conducted via cell phone. The margin of error is +/-3.3% at the 95% level of confidence. A memo on the poll is available here. ### Share this post: Share Tweet Email Post navigation  Previous Post New Poll: Whitmer Leads Schuette by 11pts, Outside Groups Abandon Schuette Next Post   Whitmer Launches Campaign Ad Focused on Getting Things Done for Michiganders Meet Gretchen Meet Garlin Issues News Volunteer Events Media Store Donate JOIN GRETCHEN Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube Medium P.O. Whitmer Wins Second Debate as Schuette Struggles to Defend Record of Filing Nine Lawsuits to Rip Health Care Away from 680,000 Michiganders - Gretchen Whitmer for GovernorSkip to content Stand with Michigan against hate. CONTRIBUTE TODAY! X Gretchen Whitmer for Governor About Issues News Media Store DONATE POSTED ON OCTOBER 25, 2018 BY ADAM FOX-LONG Whitmer Wins Second Debate as Schuette Struggles to Defend Record of Filing Nine Lawsuits to Rip Health Care Away from 680,000 Michiganders DETROIT — Eric Goldman, Campaign Manager for Gretchen Whitmer for Governor, issued the following statement on [DATE REMOVED]’s gubernatorial debate in Detroit: “Gretchen Whitmer was the clear winner of [DATE REMOVED]’s debate. Schuette’s desperation was on full display as he struggled once again to defend his record of filing nine lawsuits to rip health care away from 680,000 Michiganders and gut protections for people with pre-existing conditions like cancer and autism. Meanwhile, Gretchen focused on her bipartisan record of working across the aisle to expand Medicaid, demonstrating that she is the only candidate who can bring people together to solve problems and get things done, like finally fixing the damn roads, cleaning up our drinking water, and protecting health care.” ###   Share this post: Share Tweet Email Post navigation  Previous Post Deputy Sheriffs Association of Michigan Endorses Whitmer for Governor Next Post   New Poll: Whitmer Leads Schuette by 11pts, Outside Groups Abandon Schuette Meet Gretchen Meet Garlin Issues News Volunteer Events Media Store Donate JOIN GRETCHEN Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube Medium P.O. The Opioid Crisis - Gretchen Whitmer for GovernorSkip to content Stand with Michigan against hate. CONTRIBUTE TODAY! X Gretchen Whitmer for Governor About Issues News Media Store DONATE The Opioid Crisis HOME ISSUES THE OPIOID CRISIS The opioid crisis attacking our communities is a tragedy and a disease. Overdose deaths in Michigan from opioid abuse jumped 54% in just [DATE REMOVED]. We cannot blame the victims of this disease. We must put aside partisan differences to confront this crisis head on. In Michigan, we must take action immediately to: Expand treatment and recovery services. that help our family members and neighbors who are suffering from addiction. I will bring together community partners, medical professionals, state leaders, the federal government, and health providers to increase inpatient treatment services. Partner with law enforcement and pharmacies to continue building on and expanding permanent drug take-back programs to dispose of unneeded controlled substances. Invest in treatment courts to ensure access to the resources we need to treat addiction, including diversion and alternative sentencing. As Ingham County Prosecutor, I established policies to make sure that people with addictions could get connected to treatment, instead of going to jail. As Governor, I will continue to fund and support treatment courts. Hold physicians and drug companies accountable because Michigan has more annual opioid prescriptions than people, and we cannot allow pharmaceutical companies to continue perpetuating the crisis with immunity.
