X Gretchen Whitmer for Governor About Issues News Media Store DONATE POSTED ON OCTOBER 12, 2018 BY ADAM FOX-LONG Black Economic Alliance endorses Gretchen Whitmer for Governor Group led by top Black business executives lauds Whitmer’s commitment to expanding opportunity for Black Michiganders DETROIT — Today the Black Economic Alliance, a national political group led by top  Black business leaders and advocates focused on electing candidates who support economic policies that will improve outcomes for Black Americans, announced its’ support for Gretchen Whitmer for Governor. “The Black Economic Alliance is a fantastic example of Americans trying to lift each other up, knowing that what’s best for working people is also good for our economy,” said Whitmer. “I’m deeply honored by this endorsement and looking forward to working with the Alliance to create opportunities for Michiganders to learn high-wage skills, support small business development, and ensure everyone can participate in the new economy.” Whitmer has laid out an ambitious plan to promote economic stability and growth for all Michigan families with three pillar strategies to reboot the economy: High-wage skills training, including creating paths to high wage skills for every Michigander, debt-free two year college to make college more affordable for families, and expanding job opportunities for veterans across the state of Michigan. Closing the economic inequality gap by raising the minimum wage, providing important benefits like Paid Family Leave, and repealing Michigan’s Right to Work law. Making Michigan a place where people want to stay in and businesses want to move to by fixing the roads, reusing abandoned land, and promoting placemaking to create more vibrant communities that can attract the kind of talented workforce our businesses need to grow and create jobs. “Former Senate Democratic Leader Gretchen Whitmer has long been an advocate for the working families of Michigan — we know as Governor she will make it a priority to expand economic opportunity for the state’s Black community,” said Akunna Cook, Executive Director of the Black Economic Alliance.  “We look forward to working with Gretchen on policies that support minority-owned small businesses, help address educational disparities in Michigan, and create a better future for Black families across the state.” The Black Economic Alliance is working primarily on highly competitive races in states and districts with a significant Black population where turnout among Black voters could be decisive. ### Share this post: Share Tweet Email Post navigation  Previous Post Sen. New Poll: Whitmer Leads Schuette by 11pts, Outside Groups Abandon Schuette - Gretchen Whitmer for GovernorSkip to content Stand with Michigan against hate. CONTRIBUTE TODAY! X Gretchen Whitmer for Governor About Issues News Media Store DONATE POSTED ON OCTOBER 25, 2018 BY ADAM FOX-LONG New Poll: Whitmer Leads Schuette by 11pts, Outside Groups Abandon Schuette LANSING — A new internal poll from Gretchen Whitmer’s campaign for governor shows Whitmer leading Bill Schuette by 11 points, 47-36. Whitmer’s name recognition (77% name ID) is on par with Schuette’s (79%), and by a 14-point margin voters have a favorable impression of her (46% favorable / 32% unfavorable). By comparison, Schuette’s personal popularity is nearly the inverse of Whitmer’s. He continues to be underwater (36% fav / 43% unfav) with voters statewide, including nearly 3-in-10 (29%) who are very unfavorable to him. “Gretchen Whitmer has all the momentum in this race,” said Whitmer Campaign Manager Eric Goldman. “Schuette remains stuck in the mid-30s, and is being badly outspent on TV during the final two weeks of the campaign as Republican outside groups have all but left him for dead. While Gretchen is in a strong position to win this race, we aren’t taking anything for granted. Our campaign will keep our foot on the gas and continue to reach out to voters on the phones, on the doors, and online until the last poll closes at 8pm on November 6th.” Outside Republican groups have dramatically slashed their investments in the governor’s race. In fact, the Republican Governors Association has cancelled all TV buys for Schuette in the final week of the campaign, and no Republican outside groups have stepped up to fill the void. Meanwhile, Whitmer and the DGA will each dramatically outspend Schuette in the campaign’s closing days. The new poll was conducted for the Whitmer campaign by ALG Research, who did polling for the Obama campaign. It included a sample of 906 likely 2018 general election voters in Michigan, and was conducted October 15-21, 2018, with 55 percent of interviews conducted via cell phone. The margin of error is +/-3.3% at the 95% level of confidence. A memo on the poll is available here. ### Share this post: Share Tweet Email Post navigation  Previous Post New Poll: Whitmer Leads Schuette by 11pts, Outside Groups Abandon Schuette Next Post   Whitmer Launches Campaign Ad Focused on Getting Things Done for Michiganders Meet Gretchen Meet Garlin Issues News Volunteer Events Media Store Donate JOIN GRETCHEN Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube Medium P.O. ‘Republicans and Independents for Whitmer’ Announces Formation to Help Elect Former Senate Democratic Leader - Gretchen Whitmer for GovernorSkip to content Stand with Michigan against hate. CONTRIBUTE TODAY! X Gretchen Whitmer for Governor About Issues News Media Store DONATE POSTED ON SEPTEMBER 20, 2018 BY ADAM FOX-LONG ‘Republicans and Independents for Whitmer’ Announces Formation to Help Elect Former Senate Democratic Leader Group includes former Snyder, Engler, Milliken cabinet officials, co-author of Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act LANSING – Today a group of Republican and Independent leaders from across the state announced the formation of a new coalition to help elect former Senate Democratic Leader Gretchen Whitmer as the next Governor of Michigan. ‘Republicans and Independents for Whitmer’ will be co-chaired by former U.S. Rep. Joe Schwarz (R-Battle Creek), Jim Haveman, the former Director of the Michigan Department of Community Health under Governor John Engler and Governor Rick Snyder, Richard McLellan, who served as Transition Director to then Governor-Elect John Engler, and Vivian Carpenter, who served as Deputy State Treasurer under Governor Bill Milliken. “Now more than ever, Michigan needs a governor who knows how to put partisanship aside to get things done,” said Haveman. “As Director of DCH under Governor Snyder, I worked across the aisle with Sen. Whitmer when she was putting the votes together to pass Medicaid expansion, and because of the bipartisan work we did, 680,000 Michiganders now have access to health care. That’s exactly the kind of leadership our state needs right now to keep building on Michigan’s economic comeback.” Additional members of ‘Republicans and Independents for Whitmer’ include: Trish Foster, retired Senior Managing Director and COO at CBRE-Martin; former Rep. Mel Larsen (R-Oakland County), co-author of the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act; Mary McLellan, a retired Department of Civil Rights employee; Bill Milliken, Jr., Real Estate Broker at Milliken Realty and son of former Governor Bill Milliken; Rod Nelson, retired CEO of Mackinac Straits Health System; John Pirich, a partner at Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn; Dennis Smith, retired CEO of the UP Health Plan; Paul Tarr, President of PM Tarr and Associates; Gina Yob, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for 3S International LLC. “I’m fed up with all the partisan bickering in Lansing and Washington,” said Dr. Schwarz. “Our state is facing some real challenges, and we need a serious leader who can bring people together to actually solve problems. Gretchen has shown she’s not afraid to work with Republicans to find common ground and build consensus on important issues like expanding Medicaid.” “I’m a lifelong Republican, and I’m supporting Gretchen Whitmer this year because she’s the best person for the job,” said McLellan. “While the Attorney General has disingenuously argued we can pay for new roads without any new revenue, this is a serious issue and conservative voters like me understand that it will take money to fix them. Meanwhile, Gretchen Whitmer has offered pragmatic solutions to attract businesses to Michigan by rebuilding our infrastructure the right way and clean up our drinking water, and that’s a big part of why I’m putting partisanship aside this year and working to send Gretchen to the governor’s office.” “Gretchen just gets it,” said Carpenter. “She’s someone who always stands up for what she believes in, but she’s also someone who knows how to listen and work with folks on the other side of the aisle to get things done. That’s the only way to change everything that’s wrong in Michigan with divisive politics.” Republican and Independent voters who wish to join the group to support Whitmer may sign up online at www.gretchenwhitmer.com/republicansindependents.   # # # Share this post: Share Tweet Email Post navigation  Previous Post Gubernatorial Candidates Announce General Election Debate Schedule Next Post   Law Enforcement, Prosecutors, Nassar Survivors Call on Schuette to Denounce Shameful GOP Attack Ad Meet Gretchen Meet Garlin Issues News Volunteer Events Media Store Donate JOIN GRETCHEN Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube Medium P.O.
