Fix the Damn Roads - Gretchen Whitmer for GovernorSkip to content Stand with Michigan against hate. CONTRIBUTE TODAY! X Gretchen Whitmer for Governor About Issues News Media Store DONATE Fix the Damn Roads HOME ISSUES FIX THE DAMN ROADS To get ahead, Michiganders need one good job and we need to be able to get to that job. But our roads are so bad they cost the average driver more than $540 [DATE REMOVED], and none of that fixes a single pothole. We know that we’re not helpless because Michigan gets the same weather as our neighbors do. While politicians in Lansing vote down road funding solutions for political gain, the dire state of our highways is endangering our people and getting in the way of our economic prosperity. Michigan deserves a governor who will fix the problem and knows how to bring people together to get it done. READ GRETCHEN’S FULL PLAN More than 70 communities have drinking water systems with higher lead levels than Flint and billions of gallons of sewage currently contaminate our water ways. It’s time to fix it, and fix it right. To grow our economy and make Michigan a state that businesses move to and can grow in, we must invest in our roads, bridges, water systems, broadband, and electrical grid. Good roads are good for Michigan families and businesses and infrastructure investment is economic development. We can attract the jobs of the future and help businesses grow right here in Michigan. Now let’s get to work. My plan would: Fix it and fix it right. Upgrade Michigan’s roads, bridges, and water systems. Invest in good infrastructure because it’s good for business. Make a bold investment in the Rebuild Michigan Bank, a state infrastructure bank that will pay for high quality upgrades and create thousands of good jobs. A strategic plan to dig less and build smarter. Make commutes safer and faster Ensure clean safe water Build a new Soo Lock Connect more Michiganders to high-speed broadband Internet READ GRETCHEN’S FULL PLAN DOWNLOAD THE FACT SHEET RETURN TO ISSUES Meet Gretchen Meet Garlin Issues News Volunteer Events Media Store Donate JOIN GRETCHEN Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube Medium P.O. Bridge MI: Michigan Gov. Whitmer on tough first year: ‘I did what I said I was going to’ - Gretchen Whitmer for GovernorSkip to content Stand with Michigan against hate. CONTRIBUTE TODAY! X Gretchen Whitmer for Governor About Issues News Media Store DONATE POSTED ON DECEMBER 20, 2019 BY ZACK POHL Bridge MI: Michigan Gov. Whitmer on tough first year: ‘I did what I said I was going to’ LANSING –  She’s the popular “fix the damn roads” candidate whose roads plan crashed and burned at the Capitol. A former legislator who clashed with lawmakers. A rising star in national Democratic politics bogged down by political infighting in her own state. Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s first year in office was, in many ways, defined by another first: The state’s first period of divided government [DATE REMOVED]. The Republican-led Legislature blocked some of the Democratic governor’s top priorities, fought back when Whitmer flexed her muscle with executive authority, called her names and refused to let her drive the agenda in a state they were both elected to lead.   Read the full article here. Law Enforcement, Prosecutors, Nassar Survivors Call on Schuette to Denounce Shameful GOP Attack Ad - Gretchen Whitmer for GovernorSkip to content Stand with Michigan against hate. CONTRIBUTE TODAY! X Gretchen Whitmer for Governor About Issues News Media Store DONATE POSTED ON SEPTEMBER 21, 2018 BY ADAM FOX-LONG Law Enforcement, Prosecutors, Nassar Survivors Call on Schuette to Denounce Shameful GOP Attack Ad Whitmer Took Swift Action to Put Nassar Behind Bars LANSING – Michigan sheriffs, prosecutors, and sexual assault survivors are blasting a new attack ad from the Michigan Republican Party. The sleazy new TV ad falsely attacks Gretchen Whitmer for her role in the Larry Nassar case. “I want to be crystal clear: this ad is a lie, plain and simple. I know because I was there,” said Pat Miles, former U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan. “The truth is, Gretchen Whitmer took swift action to stop Larry Nassar once and for all. Her office got the search warrants that got the evidence that put Nassar behind bars, where he belongs. Gretchen did what any good prosecutor would do, and the fact that Bill Schuette and his allies are now using a tragedy like the Nassar case to score political points is simply appalling.” “By making this a political issue, we are essentially saying that the validity of your sexual assault depends on which side of the aisle you sit on,” said University of Michigan alum and Nassar survivor Grace French. “It takes the focus away from what you’re trying to solve, and makes us as survivors a pawn in a divided political climate. I call on Bill Schuette, politely, and respectfully, to make the Michigan Republican Party take down this ad. Leave my abusers face out of politics. Leave sexual assault out of politics.” “The Michigan Republican Party’s ad is a deplorable act on behalf of someone who is not ashamed of using me and my sister survivors to promote a lie for political gain. Bill Schuette should condemn the ad immediately,” said Nassar Survivor Jane Katzer. “This ad has played in my home and caused me to relive everything that Nassar himself had put me through. It’s an insult to me, it’s an insult to my family, and it’s an insult to everyone who has survived sexual assault.” “Bill Schuette needs to do the right thing and condemn this ad right now,” said Muskegon County Prosecutor DJ Hilson. “It does not portray an accurate picture of the truth and Schuette has the duty to tell the whole story. If Schuette believes in the truth, he will publicly demand that the Michigan Republican Party take this ad off the air immediately.” “Suggesting that Gretchen Whitmer is responsible for Larry Nassar continuing his atrocities by doing nothing is way beyond the pale – in fact it is repugnant. And a lie. And Schuette knows this,” said Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy. “Whitmer followed policy and procedure and suggesting otherwise is shameful. I usually refrain from commenting on how other electeds do their job, but I cannot let this pass. Protecting those that have been victims of sexual assault has been one of my life’s many passions for decades. I will not be a party to Schuette or anyone else being untruthful about the plight of these and other survivors. I will get up on my high horse and go far and wide if I have to speak this truth. Yes, I am a long time supporter of Gretchen Whitmer. But first and foremost I am a relentless supporter of the truth.” “The special interests have it wrong,” said Ingham County Sheriff Scott Wriggelsworth. “The evidence that was discovered in Larry Nassar’s home dumpster would have likely been destroyed if Gretchen’s office hadn’t acted so quickly. Assisting law enforcement investigators in drafting the search warrants was key in retrieving the evidence that ultimately led Nassar to plead guilty and receive a [DATE REMOVED] sentence.” As Bridge Magazine’s Truth Squad has reported, Whitmer “put the interests of justice and sexual assault victims ahead of her own political ambitions by allowing the attorney general to spearhead the cases rather than seeking to prosecute through her own office. Whitmer’s mantle as an advocate for sexual assault victims remains intact.” # # # Share this post: Share Tweet Email Post navigation  Previous Post ‘Republicans and Independents for Whitmer’ Announces Formation to Help Elect Former Senate Democratic Leader Next Post   Desperate Schuette Doubles Down on Shameful Nassar Attack Ad Meet Gretchen Meet Garlin Issues News Volunteer Events Media Store Donate JOIN GRETCHEN Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube Medium P.O. Gretchen Whitmer wants to bar weapons from being taken into the state Capitol after anti-lockdown protesters showed up with firearms, she told NBC News in a wide-ranging interview.
