Wade is threatened more than ever before. Women’s rights are under attack in courtrooms and legislatures across the country. Seventeen states passed restrictive abortion laws in 2019. The Trump administration continues to antagonize providers, both domestically and abroad.  Meanwhile, Republicans in Congress are trying to defund Planned Parenthood at every turn and have confirmed a slate of extreme, anti-choice judges. Politicians in Washington and nationwide are endangering people’s lives so that they can score political points. Senator Gardner has joined in the attacks: He supports putting politicians in charge of women’s health-care decisions, and even supports putting doctors who perform abortions in jail.  The constitutionally protected right to an abortion is one essential component of a comprehensive approach to reproductive health care. We must also guarantee access to affordable and safe contraception, coverage for routine cancer screenings and management of chronic conditions, and access to reliable information about reproductive health that is private, fact-based, and tailored to an individual’s needs.  I am, and have always been, a staunch supporter of reproductive health and justice. As Governor, I oversaw the implementation of the Colorado Family Planning Initiative. This initiative helped over 30,000 young women gain access to long-acting reversible contraceptive (LARC) devices that they may not have been able to afford or access otherwise. In less than a decade, the program reduced unintended pregnancy rates in Colorado by 54% and was estimated to save taxpayers about $70 million. Allowing young women to decide when they are ready to start a family, while also saving millions in tax dollars, is something that would find bipartisan support in the Senate if Senator McConnell were not in control. But gaps in coverage and access still yawn wide, particularly for low-income individuals, members of the LGBTQ community, and people of color. Advocacy for reproductive health means supporting reproductive justice and individuals’ ability to make safe decisions about their sexuality, health, and identity. I support organizations like Planned Parenthood, which provide intersectional care for individuals of all ages, identities, and backgrounds. I am committed to fighting for legislation that expands access to comprehensive reproductive health care for all who need it. Morgan, touting John Hickenlooper’s work fighting for farmers and ranchers and developing the first statewide water plan.  As Mayor, Hickenlooper took office during a time of record-setting drought, and as governor was widely seen as the “first governor to put water at the forefront” with his collaborative approach to building a statewide water plan.  “Water” Transcript: KEITH BATH: I’ve known John Hickenlooper almost [DATE REMOVED]. John knows that if you don’t have water, you don’t have a farm. He created the first statewide water plan that Colorado has ever had. He got people together that never agree on anything. He can organize. He gets things moving. And he will listen. He knows the state of Colorado better than anyone I know. I think that Washington needs someone like him so bad. John Hickenlooper is a good man.  HICKENLOOPER: I’m John Hickenlooper and I approve this message. ENDORSEMENT: Durango Herald Taps Hickenlooper for U.S. Senate - John Hickenlooper for U.S. SenateSkip to main content Enable accessibility for visually impaired Open the accessibility menu Skip to content CHIP IN $10 TO SUPPORT JOHN HICKENLOOPER >> CHIP IN $10 TO SUPPORT JOHN HICKENLOOPER >> Home Meet John Español Facebook-f Twitter Instagram Spotify Donate Now Donate Now OCTOBER 15, 2020 ENDORSEMENT: Durango Herald Taps Hickenlooper for U.S. Senate “ON THE MOST SIGNIFICANT ISSUE FACING AMERICANS, ACCESS TO PROPERLY PRICED HEALTH INSURANCE AND MEDICAL CARE, SENATE CANDIDATE JOHN HICKENLOOPER EASILY DESERVES SUPPORT” Today, John Hickenlooper earned the endorsement of the Durango Herald editorial board, his [DATE REMOVED] editorial board endorsement in the U.S. Senate race. In their endorsement, the Durango Herald writes that Hickenlooper is the only candidate who will protect Coloradans’ health care. The editorial also notes Hickenlooper’s success as governor in creating the state’s first water plan, his experience in small business, and his plan for “moving the country toward more renewable fuels and conservation.” Other recent endorsements include: The Denver Post, The Colorado Sentinel, The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel, El Semanario, The Vail Daily, Colorado Springs Indy, and Boulder Weekly.   Read the Durango Herald’s endorsement here or see excerpts below:Endorsements: For U.S. Senate, only one candidate has right stance on health care On the most significant issue facing Americans, access to properly priced health insurance and medical care, Senate candidate John Hickenlooper easily deserves support.  … Incumbent Sen. Cory Gardner, on the other hand, clings to longtime notions of the cure lying with cross-state line and common employment plans and medical savings accounts. Those ingredients, which would have been somewhat helpful in pre-ACA days, would fail to bring the breadth and depth needed to give Americans the coverage and bill paying they deserve. Coverage should be portable and not based on employment, nor should health care bills bring families to bankruptcy. The Affordable Care Act, which made it possible for millions to gain insurance, is not perfect. Hickenlooper would work to improve and expand it, while Gardner would vote to toss it out with no successor plan. The solutions do not lie in returning to pre-ACA. … But the Herald’s editorial board likes, as it has before, Hickenlooper’s roots in business. His brewpub, done collaboratively with other nearby business owners, brought economic vitality to several blocks of downtown Denver and added to the craft beer industry statewide. He served as Denver’s mayor. As governor he oversaw the creation of improved oil and gas exploration rules by conversation and negotiation rather than by force. The state’s first water plan, with more negotiation, was another badly needed product. … While Hickenlooper would be a leader in moving the country toward more renewable fuels and conservation, he has firmly stated that he is not an advocate for the extreme Green New Deal.  … Adding another Democrat to that party’s side of the aisle in Washington would help break the current Senate logjam, which is desirable. Hickenlooper would be helpful by envisioning the future and bringing his penchant for applying negotiations and moderate positions that made him good for Colorado. We endorse John Hickenlooper for U.S. Senate. FACT CHECK: Billionaire Rewards Gardner for Trillion Dollar Tax Cut - John Hickenlooper for U.S. SenateSkip to main content Enable accessibility for visually impaired Open the accessibility menu Skip to content CHIP IN $10 TO SUPPORT JOHN HICKENLOOPER >> CHIP IN $10 TO SUPPORT JOHN HICKENLOOPER >> Home Meet John Español Facebook-f Twitter Instagram Spotify Donate Now Donate Now OCTOBER 15, 2020 FACT CHECK: Billionaire Rewards Gardner for Trillion Dollar Tax Cut With ballots already coming in at record speed, Senator Cory Gardner’s wealthy corporate backers are panicking about losing their top ally in the U.S. Senate and pumping another million dollars into false ads. Hickenlooper for Colorado press secretary Ammar Moussa released the following statement regarding the latest attack from Gardner’s shady billionaire backers: “With [DATE REMOVED] left to vote in Colorado, Cory Gardner’s billionaire friends are throwing everything and the kitchen sink to attack John Hickenlooper and lie about Gardner’s toxic record. After collecting from Cory Gardner’s trillion dollar tax giveaway, billionaire Joe Ricketts and his super PAC are rewarding Senator Gardner with a million dollars worth of false attack ads and desperate greenwashing. These attacks will do nothing to erase Cory Gardner’s record of rubber stamping Trump’s agenda, from a trillion dollar gift to the wealthiest people and largest corporations to ramming through a Supreme Court nominee while refusing to get desperately-needed COVID relief done.” See below for the facts about this false ad. FACT: ESAFund is a super PAC run by Joe Ricketts, a racist billionaire who has organized mega donors to support Republicans who passed the Trump tax cuts. Ricketts’ family runs a super PAC that is “one of the largest dark money organizations in the nation”  Ricketts’ group spent $15 million to push through the Trump tax cuts that Cory Gardner rubber stamped. Since Trump was elected, the Ricketts family saw their fortune jump nearly a billion dollars. [DATE REMOVED], Ricketts’ emails “revealed racist and anti-Muslim sentiments.” FACT: Nine of the ten public trustees referenced in the ad were appointed by Hickenlooper’s predecessors, going as far back as 1977. The one trustee Hickenlooper appointed was not found to have engaged in any impropriety.  FACT: After requesting the resignations of all the trustees, Hickenlooper and his administration implemented immediate reforms to the trustee process that had never existed before. Among the several reforms, trustees now have to annually disclose conflict of interests and the governor’s office has increased oversight over spending. FACT: Colorado Supreme Court Justices are chosen from a list proposed by an independent, bipartisan commission. “In their report, the state’s commission for State Supreme Court justices lauded Hart for her ‘exceptional intellect,’ ‘engagement with the community,’ and ‘thoughtful and respectful approach’ to those who appear before her.” — Denverite Melissa Hart met “performance standards by a commission vote of [DATE REMOVED].” — Denverite FACT: As Governor, Hickenlooper repeatedly took on the oil and gas industry and has a clear record of tackling climate change and protecting our clean air and water. As Governor, Hickenlooper brought industry groups and environmentalists together to make Colorado the first state to limit methane pollution from oil and gas wells. Colorado’s “gold standard” rules were estimated to cut the equivalent of 340,000 cars’ worth of emissions and cut methane leaks by over half.- Denver Post In the wake of President Trump pulling the United States out of the Paris Climate Accord, Hickenlooper took action to commit Colorado to upholding those standards, issuing an executive order to cut greenhouse gas emissions by at least 26%, maximize renewable energy use, and increase electric vehicle use. Similarly, when Trump announced his repeal of the Clean Power Plan, Hickenlooper recommitted Colorado to its goals of reducing emissions.  As Governor, Hickenlooper oversaw the retirement of two coal plants that were replaced with wind and solar.
