Women's Rights - Gretchen Whitmer for GovernorSkip to content Stand with Michigan against hate. CONTRIBUTE TODAY! X Gretchen Whitmer for Governor About Issues News Media Store DONATE Women’s Rights HOME ISSUES WOMEN’S RIGHTS When women thrive, we all thrive. However, women of Michigan have been held back by an economy and a state government that does not treat them as equals. Women still struggle with inequity in Michigan’s economy, earning just 74 cents for every dollar their male counterparts earn for the same work. When women fight for fairness, the legislature responds by passing anti-women laws. I will stand up for women and turn Michigan into a model state for equality. READ GRETCHEN’S FULL PLAN As Governor I will continue to fiercely defend the rights of every Michigan woman, including for women’s access to all forms of reproductive care, contraception, and maternity care, paid family leave, and equal pay. The day after the inauguration, I rallied more than 9,000 people at the Capitol to fight back against Donald Trump’s attacks on women and families. As Senate Democratic Leader I led the fight against Republican efforts to erect more barriers for women in their health care. On the floor of the state legislature, I shared my own story of surviving sexual assault to speak out for all the women they silenced by refusing to hold a single public hearing. As Ingham County Prosecutor I implemented a new domestic violence unit, and am committed to bringing together university officials, law enforcement, students, and legislators to end sexual assaults on college campuses.. Michigan Nurses: Schuette Trying to Rewrite His Healthcare Record - Gretchen Whitmer for GovernorSkip to content Stand with Michigan against hate. CONTRIBUTE TODAY! X Gretchen Whitmer for Governor About Issues News Media Store DONATE POSTED ON OCTOBER 8, 2018 BY ADAM FOX-LONG Michigan Nurses: Schuette Trying to Rewrite His Healthcare Record LANSING – Today the President of the Michigan Nurses Association issued the following statement commenting on Bill Schuette’s press conference, where the Attorney General desperately tried to rewrite his record on healthcare. “As a nurse, I am disgusted that Bill Schuette is trying to rewrite his past because he finally realizes that most Michigan residents don’t share his view that only the wealthy deserve health care,” said Jamie Brown, RN, president of the Michigan Nurses Association. “My colleagues and I see every day that healthcare coverage is a life-or-death matter for many, many Michigan families. Gretchen Whitmer is the only candidate for governor who can be trusted to protect the millions of Michigan residents with pre-existing conditions whose lives would be at risk if Bill Schuette has his way.” # # # Share this post: Share Tweet Email Post navigation  Previous Post Michigan Firefighters: Bill Schuette is Bad for Retirees Next Post   Whitmer Launches Two Campaign Ads Featuring Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and Prosecutor Kym Worthy Meet Gretchen Meet Garlin Issues News Volunteer Events Media Store Donate JOIN GRETCHEN Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube Medium P.O. The president continued musing, “You know who I’m talking about, from Michigan,” and later added, “All she does is sit there and blame the federal government. She doesn’t get it done.” Then, the ultimate dismissal of strong women who dare to confront the monarch of Trumpworld: Working with her had “not been pleasant.” [DATE REMOVED], at his regular White House briefing, Trump doubled down on his criticism of the 48-year-old governor, telling Vice President Mike Pence, who is in charge of the administration’s COVID-19 response, “don’t call the woman in Michigan” because she wasn’t “appreciative” of Trump’s help. (He later acknowledged that Pence was indeed going to call her and denied that he had tried to block that conversation from taking place.)   Read the full article here.
