The president continued musing, “You know who I’m talking about, from Michigan,” and later added, “All she does is sit there and blame the federal government. She doesn’t get it done.” Then, the ultimate dismissal of strong women who dare to confront the monarch of Trumpworld: Working with her had “not been pleasant.” [DATE REMOVED], at his regular White House briefing, Trump doubled down on his criticism of the 48-year-old governor, telling Vice President Mike Pence, who is in charge of the administration’s COVID-19 response, “don’t call the woman in Michigan” because she wasn’t “appreciative” of Trump’s help. Former President Barack Obama Endorses Gretchen Whitmer for Governor - Gretchen Whitmer for GovernorSkip to content Stand with Michigan against hate. CONTRIBUTE TODAY! X Gretchen Whitmer for Governor About Issues News Media Store DONATE POSTED ON OCTOBER 1, 2018 BY ADAM FOX-LONG Former President Barack Obama Endorses Gretchen Whitmer for Governor DETROIT — Today former President Barack Obama endorsed Gretchen Whitmer for Governor of Michigan. “I’m proud to endorse Gretchen Whitmer because Michigan’s middle-class families need a governor who knows how to get things done,” said former President Barack Obama. “Gretchen has spent her whole life getting real results for hardworking Michiganders, whether it was raising the minimum wage, or working to expand Medicaid through the Affordable Care Act to cover more than 680,000 people. As governor, she’ll focus on getting things done that will actually make a difference in people’s lives right now, like fixing Michigan’s roads, speeding up the replacement of lead pipes in communities like Flint, and getting our kids the skills they need to compete for good-paying jobs. That’s exactly the kind of leadership Michigan needs in the governor’s office right now.” “It’s such an honor to have President Obama’s support because as President he fought every day to make sure hardworking Michiganders had access to quality, affordable health care and worked to rescue Michigan’s auto industry, which saved 1.5 million jobs,” said Whitmer. “Thanks to the Affordable Care Act and the work I did as Senate Democratic Leader to expand Medicaid, more than 680,000 Michiganders now have health care who didn’t before. There’s still more work to do, and I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and expand Medicaid to the 600,000 Michiganders who still need care. Let’s get it done.” “It’s so exciting to have President Obama’s support,” said Gilchrist. “I started off my career as an organizer by serving as Social Media Manager for the 2008 Obama campaign in Washington, and as National Campaign Director at MoveOn.org, I spearheaded a campaign to expand Medicaid in states with Republican governors, like Michigan. As Lieutenant Governor, I’m ready to work side-by-side with Gretchen, President Obama, and everyone who wants to get to work expanding Michiganders’ access to health care.” ### Share this post: Share Tweet Email Post navigation  Previous Post New Group of ‘Business Leaders for Whitmer’ Forms to Help Elect Gretchen Whitmer as Michigan’s Next Governor Next Post   Whitmer Launches Campaign Ad Focused on Health Care, Protecting People with Pre-Existing Conditions Meet Gretchen Meet Garlin Issues News Volunteer Events Media Store Donate JOIN GRETCHEN Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube Medium P.O.
