Whitmer Crushes Bill Schuette in First Gubernatorial Debate - Gretchen Whitmer for GovernorSkip to content Stand with Michigan against hate. CONTRIBUTE TODAY! X Gretchen Whitmer for Governor About Issues News Media Store DONATE POSTED ON OCTOBER 12, 2018 BY ADAM FOX-LONG Whitmer Crushes Bill Schuette in First Gubernatorial Debate GRAND RAPIDS — Eric Goldman, Campaign Manager for Gretchen Whitmer for Governor, issued the following statement on [DATE REMOVED]’s first gubernatorial debate in Grand Rapids: “Gretchen Whitmer crushed Bill Schuette [DATE REMOVED]. And it wasn’t close. No matter how hard he tries, Bill Schuette can’t hide from his record of joining nine lawsuits to rip health care away from 680,000 Michiganders and ignoring 15 complaints to his office on the Flint water crisis. [DATE REMOVED] Gretchen stayed focused on the issues that matter most to Michigan families, like finally fixing the damn roads, cleaning up our drinking water, and getting our kids the skills they need to help our kids compete for good-paying jobs, and that’s exactly what she’ll do as our next governor.” ### Share this post: Share Tweet Email Post navigation  Previous Post Black Economic Alliance endorses Gretchen Whitmer for Governor Next Post   Detroit Regional Chamber Endorses Gretchen Whitmer Over Bill Schuette for Governor Meet Gretchen Meet Garlin Issues News Volunteer Events Media Store Donate JOIN GRETCHEN Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube Medium P.O. Desperate Schuette Doubles Down on Shameful Nassar Attack Ad - Gretchen Whitmer for GovernorSkip to content Stand with Michigan against hate. CONTRIBUTE TODAY! X Gretchen Whitmer for Governor About Issues News Media Store DONATE POSTED ON SEPTEMBER 21, 2018 BY ADAM FOX-LONG Desperate Schuette Doubles Down on Shameful Nassar Attack Ad Chief Dunlap: “worked closely with Whitmer’s office… to achieve the best possible outcome for the survivors of Larry Nassar.” LANSING — Today former Ingham County Prosecutor Gretchen Whitmer stood with Michigan sheriffs, prosecutors, and Nassar survivors to set the record straight regarding her role in the Larry Nassar case. Schuette responded at a press conference [DATE REMOVED] doubling down on the Michigan Republican Party’s repugnant ad attacking Whitmer, a rape survivor, for her role in bringing Larry Nassar to justice. Today MSU Chief of Police James Dunlap told the Detroit News that he worked closely with Whitmer to help deliver the best possible outcome for the survivors. As Prosecutor, Whitmer got the warrants that ultimately brought the first [DATE REMOVED] sentence against Larry Nassar. “Not only is Bill Schuette spreading lies about Gretchen’s long record as a fighter for survivors, but he refuses to condemn the Michigan Republican Party for their disgusting ad,” said Nassar survivor Jane Katzer. “Now, my family and I have to worry every time we turn on the TV or open a web browser that we’re going to see the face of the man who abused me. Bill Schuette is a lowlife who would lie to distort a sexual assault survivor’s record on sexual assault in order to try and win an election. He needs to stop playing politics and demand that the Michigan Republican Party take this repulsive ad down.” FACT: Nassar’s crimes took place in multiple jurisdictions “Both Whitmer and Schuette have said publicly that because the sex crimes were committed in multiple jurisdictions, the state Attorney General’s Office was the right office to handle their prosecution.” –Bridge Truth Squad FACT: MSU Chief Dunlap told the Detroit News today he “worked closely with Whitmer’s office… to achieve the best possible outcome for the survivors of Larry Nassar.” Today MSU Police Chief Jim Dunlap told the Detroit News “his department worked closely with Whitmer’s office, Schuette’s office and the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Western District of Michigan, which handled the federal charges. ‘Those efforts were meant to achieve the best possible outcome for the survivors of Larry Nassar,’ Dunlap said in a statement, ‘and by all objective accounts those efforts were successful.’” FACT: Ingham County Prosecutor’s office did not receive detailed police reports “Lisa McCormick, chief assistant prosecutor for Ingham County, confirmed Whitmer’s account of events to Truth Squad. McCormick said the office never received police reports, warrant requests or witness lists from MSU’s police department that would have allowed county prosecutors to determine appropriate charges. ‘There is no way for a prosecutor to charge someone without the warrant request, the witness list and the police report,” she said, adding: “It would be unethical to do otherwise.’” –Bridge Truth Squad FACT: Whitmer told Dunlap “we share the dual goal of protecting the victim and ensuring we are successful in getting maximum penalty for the defendant.” “In [DATE REMOVED] email exchange between Whitmer and Dunlap, first requested under Michigan’s Freedom of Information Act by Gongwer News Service, and provided to Truth Squad, Whitmer told the chief her office was ‘eager to read any and all police reports you send our way. I believe we share the dual goals of protecting the victim and ensuring we are successful in getting the maximum penalty for the defendant,’ she wrote on [DATE REMOVED]. ‘And while I understand your desire to make an arrest as soon as possible, I hope you understand that we think it is important to flesh out the issues in the case now that the (U.S. attorney’s office) is involved.’” –Bridge Truth Squad # # # Share this post: Share Tweet Email Post navigation  Previous Post Law Enforcement, Prosecutors, Nassar Survivors Call on Schuette to Denounce Shameful GOP Attack Ad Next Post   VIDEO: Schuette Refuses Three Times to Pull Repulsive Nassar Attack Ad Meet Gretchen Meet Garlin Issues News Volunteer Events Media Store Donate JOIN GRETCHEN Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube Medium P.O. X Gretchen Whitmer for Governor About Issues News Media Store DONATE POSTED ON SEPTEMBER 13, 2018 BY ZACK POHL Michigan FOP endorses Whitmer for governor Democratic candidate for governor Gretchen Whitmer has earned the endorsement of the Michigan Fraternal Order of Police (MIFOP) for the [DATE REMOVED] election. “Although both candidates are well versed on law enforcement issues and would lead our state well, our committee ultimately decided to support Whitmer,” explains Mike Sauger, MFOP president.  “It was a difficult decision with two well qualified candidates.  Because she has worked with several governors over the years, we believe she will work most effectively on both sides of the aisle.” Through a selection process that included in person interviews with both candidates at the MIFOP office, a five member committee made the endorsement decision on behalf of the MIFOP membership. “We look forward to having a productive, open door relationship with the next governor,” says David Hiller, MIFOP executive director.  “Law enforcement issues are central to protecting public safety and we appreciate the high priority that both candidates place on them.” Founded in 1939, the Michigan chapter of the FOP is focused on protecting public safety.  MIFOP is Michigan’s largest and oldest law enforcement organization with 7,500 active members and 3,000 associate members in more than 50 lodges throughout the state. # # # Share this post: Share Tweet Email Post navigation  Previous Post Whitmer Announces Garlin Gilchrist II as Running Mate Next Post   Gubernatorial Candidates Announce General Election Debate Schedule Meet Gretchen Meet Garlin Issues News Volunteer Events Media Store Donate JOIN GRETCHEN Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube Medium P.O.
