Meet JB - Illinois Governor JB Pritzker97%MENU Meet JB On [DATE REMOVED], I was honored to be sworn in as the 43rd Governor of the great state of Illinois. That was one of the proudest moments of my life and I’ve been working every day to put our government back on the side of working families. I’ve gotten a lot done in my time in office. We have increased the minimum wage to a living wage, launched the largest infrastructure project in Illinois history, made college more affordable, and expanded early childhood education. But I know we have more to do. I’m proud of the progress we have made but there is much more to do to fix the disfunction from past administrations. I’m confident in our ability to face the challenge and get big things done for the people of Illinois. I’m the husband of the best First Lady in the nation. Since I first met MK [DATE REMOVED], she has been my partner in everything I’ve done and I’m so happy that the love of my life is helping to make our state a better place to raise our family. I’m most proud of being the father of two great kids. My daughter, Teddi, is a track and cross country runner. My son, Donny, is a total math whiz and a football fanatic. I wake up each [DATE REMOVED] thinking about ways to make our state and our country a better place to live for them and their future. I’ve been an entrepreneur. Before becoming Governor, I led the creation of 1871, a non-profit business incubator that has helped create over 7,000 jobs and made Chicago one of the top tech hubs in the world. As Governor, I’ve expanded skills training programs to prepare our kids for the jobs of the future, brought tax relief to 300,000 small businesses, and passed the Rebuild Illinois plan that will create and support hundreds of thousands of good paying jobs. I’ve been an advocate for early childhood development. I’ve been a national leader in supporting early childhood education and I worked to expand Illinois’ school breakfast program to 230,000 additional students across the state. Since being sworn into office, I have expanded childcare assistance, made the biggest investment in early childhood programs in Illinois history, and raised the minimum salary for teachers. 1992 March for Women’s Lives  I believe in justice and social equality. MK and I helped support the Center on Wrongful Convictions, which has become a national leader in rectifying wrongful convictions. When my administration legalized marijuana, we created the most equity-centric law in the nation to guarantee investment in communities hit hardest by the war on drugs and I have pardoned over 11,000 people convicted of low-level offenses. I’ve been a student of history. As a descendant of Ukrainian Jews who came to America as refugees, I’ve been proud to work with Holocaust survivors to open the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center that helps kids and teachers learn how to fight bigotry and hatred in their communities. That’s why I’ve been leading the fight against Donald Trump’s racist policies that seek to discriminate against immigrants to our great country. I’m a huge Blackhawks fan. I am not above wearing a Hawks jersey when I get invited on TV to talk about creating jobs in Chicago.
