TV Stations in Grand Rapids, Flint, Traverse City Pull Down False DeVos Attack Ads Against Whitmer - Gretchen Whitmer for GovernorSkip to content Stand with Michigan against hate. CONTRIBUTE TODAY! X Gretchen Whitmer for Governor About Issues News Media Store DONATE POSTED ON NOVEMBER 2, 2018 BY ZACK POHL TV Stations in Grand Rapids, Flint, Traverse City Pull Down False DeVos Attack Ads Against Whitmer SOUTHFIELD – Today the Whitmer for Governor campaign issued the following statement from Campaign Manager Eric Goldman commenting on news that three Sinclair TV stations in Grand Rapids, Flint, and Traverse City pulled down a false and misleading attack ad by the DeVos-backed group Priorities for Michigan. “As Bill Schuette struggles in the polls, it’s clear that the only ammunition they have left are desperate lies and smears. We applaud Sinclair TV stations for moving quickly to take down this libelous and misleading dark money smear. We call on the remaining stations that are running this ad to fulfill their legal obligation and follow Sinclair’s lead by pulling down this false attack ad immediately.” BACKGROUND: As MIRS News reported [DATE REMOVED]: Mystery Group With GOP Ties Goes On TV With Unsourced Claim On Whitmer The enigmatic pro-Republican entity “Priorities for Michigan” is back with a TV ad claiming Democratic gubernatorial candidate Gretchen WHITMER wants to make Michigan a “sanctuary state,” an unreferenced claim that doesn’t match anything she’s reportedly said on the campaign trail. The announcer in the “Priorities for Michigan” commercials warns that “thousands of migrants are moving north, demanding to cross our border.” … “Whitmer wants to declare Michigan a sanctuary state. Whitmer would take a dangerous gamble especially now,” according to the ad. When MIRS caught up with Whitmer at a Michigan Education Association meet-and-greet, she said this when asked if she ever said she’d make Michigan a sanctuary state, “I’ve never made that statement . . . No. I’ve never said that.” … “Priorities for Michigan” has funded a pro-Republican women’s recruiting group called a “League of Our Own,” whose “scouts” include former House Speaker Jase BOLGER, Michigan Freedom Fund head Tony DAUNT and four female Republican House members, among others connected to Republican politics. # # # Share this post: Share Tweet Email Post navigation  Previous Post Former President Barack Obama Urges Michigan Voters to Support Gretchen Whitmer in New Radio Ad Next Post   Detroit Free Press: Gretchen Whitmer officially sworn in as Michigan’s 49th governor Meet Gretchen Meet Garlin Issues News Volunteer Events Media Store Donate JOIN GRETCHEN Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube Medium P.O. New Poll: Whitmer Leads Schuette by 11pts, Outside Groups Abandon Schuette - Gretchen Whitmer for GovernorSkip to content Stand with Michigan against hate. CONTRIBUTE TODAY! X Gretchen Whitmer for Governor About Issues News Media Store DONATE POSTED ON OCTOBER 25, 2018 BY ADAM FOX-LONG New Poll: Whitmer Leads Schuette by 11pts, Outside Groups Abandon Schuette LANSING — A new internal poll from Gretchen Whitmer’s campaign for governor shows Whitmer leading Bill Schuette by 11 points, 47-36. Whitmer’s name recognition (77% name ID) is on par with Schuette’s (79%), and by [DATE REMOVED]-point margin voters have a favorable impression of her (46% favorable / 32% unfavorable). By comparison, Schuette’s personal popularity is nearly the inverse of Whitmer’s. He continues to be underwater (36% fav / 43% unfav) with voters statewide, including nearly 3-in-10 (29%) who are very unfavorable to him. “Gretchen Whitmer has all the momentum in this race,” said Whitmer Campaign Manager Eric Goldman. “Schuette remains stuck in the mid-30s, and is being badly outspent on TV during the final [DATE REMOVED] of the campaign as Republican outside groups have all but left him for dead. While Gretchen is in a strong position to win this race, we aren’t taking anything for granted. Our campaign will keep our foot on the gas and continue to reach out to voters on the phones, on the doors, and online until the last poll closes [DATE REMOVED].” Outside Republican groups have dramatically slashed their investments in the governor’s race. In fact, the Republican Governors Association has cancelled all TV buys for Schuette in the final week of the campaign, and no Republican outside groups have stepped up to fill the void. Meanwhile, Whitmer and the DGA will each dramatically outspend Schuette in the campaign’s closing days. The new poll was conducted for the Whitmer campaign by ALG Research, who did polling for the Obama campaign. It included a sample of 906 likely 2018 general election voters in Michigan, and was conducted [DATE REMOVED], with 55 percent of interviews conducted via cell phone. The margin of error is +/-3.3% at the 95% level of confidence. A memo on the poll is available here. ### Share this post: Share Tweet Email Post navigation  Previous Post New Poll: Whitmer Leads Schuette by 11pts, Outside Groups Abandon Schuette Next Post   Whitmer Launches Campaign Ad Focused on Getting Things Done for Michiganders Meet Gretchen Meet Garlin Issues News Volunteer Events Media Store Donate JOIN GRETCHEN Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube Medium P.O. Whitmer, just [DATE REMOVED] into office and preoccupied with her agenda for 2020, barely registered it. She was in a hurry to push forward on some of her campaign promises, like introducing an array of new education programs and repairing Michigan’s badly potholed roads. The state’s Republican lawmakers had blocked her at nearly every turn, but now, with the economy in Michigan and America booming, Whitmer had a plan to make an end-run around the Legislature by issuing $3.5 billion in bonds to help fund her projects. [DATE REMOVED] was going to be about building political momentum for that effort and gearing up for a presidential election in which Michigan, where Donald Trump won by just 10,704 votes in 2016, was again going to be an important battleground state. Whitmer was tapped to deliver the Democratic response to Trump’s annual State of the Union address on [DATE REMOVED].   Read the full article here.
