Michigan Firefighters: Bill Schuette is Bad for Retirees - Gretchen Whitmer for Governor46%Skip to content Stand with Michigan against hate. CONTRIBUTE TODAY! X Gretchen Whitmer for Governor About Issues News Media Store DONATE POSTED ON OCTOBER 4, 2018 BY ZACK POHL Michigan Firefighters: Bill Schuette is Bad for Retirees DETROIT – Today the President of the Michigan Professional Fire Fighters Union Mark Docherty issued the following statement commenting on Bill Schuette’s record of supporting the Retirement Tax on Michigan seniors: “Bill Schuette can’t hide from his record of giving tax breaks to his wealthy friends at the expense of hardworking Michigan families. The tax plan Schuette supported in 2011 included the Retirement Tax, which has cost seniors who worked hard their whole lives thousands in new taxes they can’t afford. Schuette even said that plan was ‘great news for Michiganders.’ No matter how hard he tries to rewrite his record, Michigan firefighters know that Bill Schuette is bad for retirees, bad for our families, and bad for Michigan.” Former Senate Democratic Leader Gretchen Whitmer has been endorsed by the Michigan Professional Fire Fighters Union, the Michigan Association of Police Organizations, and the Michigan Fraternal Order of Police. Former President Barack Obama Endorses Gretchen Whitmer for Governor - Gretchen Whitmer for GovernorSkip to content Stand with Michigan against hate. CONTRIBUTE TODAY! X Gretchen Whitmer for Governor About Issues News Media Store DONATE POSTED ON OCTOBER 1, 2018 BY ADAM FOX-LONG Former President Barack Obama Endorses Gretchen Whitmer for Governor DETROIT — Today former President Barack Obama endorsed Gretchen Whitmer for Governor of Michigan. “I’m proud to endorse Gretchen Whitmer because Michigan’s middle-class families need a governor who knows how to get things done,” said former President Barack Obama. “Gretchen has spent her whole life getting real results for hardworking Michiganders, whether it was raising the minimum wage, or working to expand Medicaid through the Affordable Care Act to cover more than 680,000 people. As governor, she’ll focus on getting things done that will actually make a difference in people’s lives right now, like fixing Michigan’s roads, speeding up the replacement of lead pipes in communities like Flint, and getting our kids the skills they need to compete for good-paying jobs. That’s exactly the kind of leadership Michigan needs in the governor’s office right now.” “It’s such an honor to have President Obama’s support because as President he fought every day to make sure hardworking Michiganders had access to quality, affordable health care and worked to rescue Michigan’s auto industry, which saved 1.5 million jobs,” said Whitmer. “Thanks to the Affordable Care Act and the work I did as Senate Democratic Leader to expand Medicaid, more than 680,000 Michiganders now have health care who didn’t before. There’s still more work to do, and I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and expand Medicaid to the 600,000 Michiganders who still need care. Let’s get it done.” “It’s so exciting to have President Obama’s support,” said Gilchrist. “I started off my career as an organizer by serving as Social Media Manager for the 2008 Obama campaign in Washington, and as National Campaign Director at MoveOn.org, I spearheaded a campaign to expand Medicaid in states with Republican governors, like Michigan. As Lieutenant Governor, I’m ready to work side-by-side with Gretchen, President Obama, and everyone who wants to get to work expanding Michiganders’ access to health care.” ### Share this post: Share Tweet Email Post navigation  Previous Post New Group of ‘Business Leaders for Whitmer’ Forms to Help Elect Gretchen Whitmer as Michigan’s Next Governor Next Post   Whitmer Launches Campaign Ad Focused on Health Care, Protecting People with Pre-Existing Conditions Meet Gretchen Meet Garlin Issues News Volunteer Events Media Store Donate JOIN GRETCHEN Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube Medium P.O.
